TopSail
One of Whangarei's best restaurants, TopSail sits above the Onerahi Yacht Club with views over the harbour. The menu leans heavily on Northland produce and the cooking is polished — it's a Travellers' Choice award winner on TripAdvisor for good reason. Note that TopSail runs a seasonal schedule (typically Thursday–Saturday evenings), so check ahead before you go.

Tonic Restaurant

Split Bar & Restaurant
Split has been a Whangarei staple since 2007. Under new ownership since 2024, it continues to serve modern New Zealand cuisine — local seafood, NZ beef and lamb, complemented by good local wines. Local Talent Taverna
A welcome addition to the Whangarei dining scene since opening in 2023. Local Talent serves Greek and Mediterranean fare — gyros, souvlaki, kofta, and a much-talked-about bifteki cheeseburger — using local Northland suppliers. Khane Bahar Indian Restaurant and Bar

Schnappa Rock — Tutukaka (30 min)
A Northland icon at Tutukaka Marina, Schnappa Rock is well worth the 30-minute drive. Winner of Best Destination Venue at the 2025 Hospitality NZ Awards. The kitchen uses spray-free produce from their own garden, line-caught fish, and free-range eggs — and there's a good gluten-free menu. Open Tuesday–Saturday from 8 am, Sunday until 5:30 pm. Ideal after a day of diving at the Poor Knights Islands.
