If you’re interested in local history, Whangarei Museum and Kiwi House offers an insight into European and Maori history. Explore the colonial Kauri homestead, built in 1886, the chapel, school and working vintage machinery. Also be sure to visit the Kiwi house and meet New Zealand’s iconic Kiwi bird. Both are just a 10 minute drive from our Whangarei holiday park accommodation.

Clapham’s National Clock Museum is also a must see Whangarei attraction, located at the Quayside Town Basin. If you’re interested in art, Whangarei also has a range of art galleries, the larger ones being Reyburn House Art Gallery and the Whangarei Art Museum, both regularly featuring touring exhibitions.

The Hundertwasser Art Centre at the Town Basin is well worth a visit. Inspired by the visionary Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, who lived in Northland for many years, the building is a striking piece of architecture in itself — featuring his signature organic forms, golden onion dome and mosaic tile work. Inside you’ll find rotating exhibitions celebrating his life and work alongside New Zealand artists.
